When I was growing up, I attended private and Christian schools. After my first child was born, I just said to myself, “Well, I went to Christian school, so that’s what I want for my children also”. My oldest son attended a Christian school for kindergarten, 1st grade and 6 weeks of 2nd grade. My second son attended 4K for only 6 weeks. My two youngest children have always been homeschooled.
At the time when my oldest was in 2nd grade and my second son was in 4K, I began to feel that God was speaking to me and telling me to homeschool. I said, “No way – homeschooling is not for me.”
But God continued to work on my heart for several weeks. It was all I could think about. I was strongly against it because it was not what I had done. I didn’t know much about it. One night I could not sleep so I got up and started reading my Bible. I asked God to speak to me and show me what He wanted me to do. After spending time in prayer and reading my Bible, I really felt like God did want me to homeschool and I finally surrendered to the idea. Once I did, I felt total peace and relief.
Early that morning, I told my husband what happened and he fully supported me. Then I asked my sons if they would like to be homeschooled. They both quickly said “Yes!”, which completely confirmed the decision for me. I immediately withdrew them from the Christian school and we started homeschooling.
We just loved it from the beginning and we continue to love it just as much to this day.
